Conmee is a neat lake. When I was there in 2002 we portaged in on the east portage from Suzanette. Along that portage is a section maker right out in the middle of the portage. The thing I remember the most was paddling on Conmee in the southeast bay. I remember a feeling of errieness as we paddled thru. In mentioning this to others I have found myself not to be the only ones to feel like that in that location. The campsite is small but very nice in the channel on the north shore. img.photobucket.com/albums/v453/qpassage/Northern%20Exposure/TentonComneeLakeEastChannelCampsite.jpg[/img]Day 3 Even though destination is planned at French Lake in just 5 days, I feel that there are, as I see it, 2 ways to go. 1 Do the Death March again and visit the Message Jar on Delahey Lake. or 2 Take those 3 Memory Lane Portages to Poohbah Lake. I'm opting for the latteral. Finally finding (I Think) a map with the correct portage marks on it. The lore of these three portages are noted to be very challenging as well as understand what it feels like to be lost. But I'm told the walleys on Poohbah again like on Conmee are worth any portage to get there. I personally only know one person who has been on these portages I hope to learn much more of them before I cross them next year. Once on Poohbah I'll plan to paddle across to the Poohbah Creek area and camp on a site there I've been told of. That is if I still have enough steam in me to paddle the large lake called Poohbah. Today we traveled: 3 lakes/Creeks 3 portages totaling 1064 rods (tough day) Trip Totals so far 17 Lakes/Creek/Rivers 16 portages total rods 1835 qp

qp - Looks to me like you could save yourself maybe $150 (per person) in camping fees by using a northern versus a southern entry point. Entering at Prairie Portage, the fee is $18 per night. Entering at (say) Beaverhouse, the fee is $13 per night. ($5.00 X 30 nights = $150). Just a thought. dd

Just not sure about leaving my car at a lot on the Canadian side for a month. I might look into a drop though and paddle out to PP.

This will be a long day but worth it. From Poohbah I'll head east today. Portage into Berniece then into Allan Lake. I'm interested in seeing how the Allan Creek compares to the Cutty Creek area I was on in 2002. Once we get to Fred Lake we will head south actually on Cutty Creek, into Nan the Camel Lakes. Three short jump portages and were on Eag Lake. The plan is to camp on McDougall Lake. I hear telll of a 5 star plus on that lake. I also know for a fact you don't want to take that brutal portage from McDougall to Keats Lake. So in the morning I'll plan on visiting Chatterton Falls from the top side. Today we traveled: 11 lakes/Creeks 15 portages totaling 803 rods (long day) Trip Totals so far 28 Lakes/Creek/Rivers 31 portages total rods 2638

Day 5 will take us by a couple interesting things. Both of those being on Chatterton Lake After the short portage into Chatterton I'll be exploying the island directlly to the north. I understand there are Indian Painting there and I intend to find them. After this I'll slide up to the top side of the falls to check them out.. From there I plan on portageing into Alice, Take a look at Gahn Lake and then due the Bonhamme Portage. Planning on camping on the Unnamed Lake after this portage.
Today we traveled: 4 lakes/Creeks 4 portages totaling 393 rods (long day)
Trip Totals so far 32 Lakes/Creek/Rivers 35 portages total rods 3031
Anyone got any photos of Alice Lake they would share? qp

Today we should get close to our re-suppy point of French Lake. We will finsh up the second portage called the Sauvage Portage. These two portages were as many know cut thru in the early 1960's. 1964 I seem to recall. They were blazed by two guys who were trying to find a shorter way from PP to French Lake in the annual Canoe Derby they held back then. Imagine, their names were Bonhomme and Sauvage. Once we arrive on Fern Lake a small detour will be in place to check out the awesome view above the Pickerel River between Fern and Olifaunt. Then it's up the B Lakes (Bud,Beg, and Bisk). Into the Rawn Narrows then skating the south shore of Pickerel Lake looking for a nice campsite within a couple hours paddle of French Lake. Any sugestions? The Pines would be nice but I think the wind has taken it's toll there.
Today we traveled: 7 lakes/Creeks 6 portages totaling 870 rods (a couple long portages)
Trip Totals so far 39 Lakes/Creek/Rivers 41 portages total rods 3901
