hello,
I don't know everyone here but for those who know about our travels with a toddler we have a new addition. We are having a girl!!! We saw the ultrasound the other day. Now its time for a name. We love the name Alice because many of our base camp trips have been to a lake we like a lot: Alice Lake in the BWCA. So if we go with Alice for a name i suppose we will HAVE to see Alice Lake in Quetico. Anybody been there? Camps? Fishing? i know nothing about it.
thanks,
Trout Lane

Hey, Congrats !!!
Daughters are a ton of fun & now you guy's will have one of each....Perfect.
As for Alice, sorry I've been to the BW's Alice several times, but not the Q. I would be curious to hear sometime where you found the best fishing on Alice, just to see if we found the same areas.

WW,
We have kind of a love/hate relation with Alice of the BWCA when it comes to fishing. We either have done well or been done in by mysterious lockjaw or wind. But IMO it has some of the finest camps in the BW or Q for that matter. Some of the finest sand beaches anywhere. Fishing spots? Well, get a depth map and you will see that there are about ten reefs/points that hold a majority of the fish. Otherwise Alice is like a big open bowl that is very suseptible to wind as you might know. As you enter from Insula, there is the spot where everyone fishes by the rapid, but just around the corner heading east is a nice 6 ft hump surrounded by deep water out in the main "bowl" of the lake. Nice spot if you can find it and the wind cooperates. Most of our fishing has been done around the north end of the lake. There is a point by a sand beach, a reef just under the water out in the middle of the lake, a point that extends way out into the northern most bay, the north arm can be good for northerns and walleye early. There are other spots. But Alice is easy to figure out where to fish its just being able to get there with the wind. We just got tired of being windbound and have fished Insula the last few years and have consistently done better on Insula. Though I still love to go to Alice Lake. I think its one of the best the BW has to offer.

Congratulations! The first thing I thought was maybe you might want to avoid actually going to Alice Lake just before due date. I'm really happy for you.

Thanks for sharing TL,
I have fished mostly on the north end, but the best fishing we found was over by the lone campsite on the west side, the moose like to cross to the island & often will walk through the site & not many people go to that side.
You are correct.... Alice has some really nice beach sites, but the reason for them is that wind all us canoers hate so much.

WW,
You are right about the wind. It shows the power of the wind to form those beaches which i dont think I have seen anywhere else on that size of a lake (Alice is about 1600 acres). Name another medium size lake with those kind of beaches??? I cant name one that I have seen. Jean Lake, Sturgeon have huge beaches but are much bigger lakes. It really is unique. It may have something to due with the surrounding terrain because Insula has a few beaches and little Amber Lake has one too just to the North. Just a thought.
