Nibi,
How long would say it would take to get to GeBe in a straight shot. I am looking at base camping there next year.
Assume double portaging an consistent medium paddle. Hoping to see widlife along the way.
TIA Ryeman

Nibi, How long would say it would take to get to GeBe in a straight shot. I am looking at base camping there next year. Assume double portaging an consistent medium paddle. Hoping to see widlife along the way. TIA Ryeman Gebe would be quite the haul in one day. Jim and I hit the water at the Moose River entry at about 9:30 (after completing the initial portage) and pulled into the Oyster campsite at about 4:30-5:00. We double portaged. We did do some sight seeing along the way (notably, top of the world) but, otherwise were moving well. The next day, we again hit the water about 9 or 9:30 and didn't get to Gebe until about 2:00. Again, we stopped for awhile at the pictos on Rocky but, otherwise, didn't do much dawdling. I think you're looking at at least about a 10 hour day and that's w/o any sightseeing and very few or very short breaks.

You mentioned "The Top of The World" hike, I am very interested in doing that, but can't find it on the maps, I see on my Fisher a 1400ft steep climb up from the Moose River,Is this it?

That is the place WW. You will see a couple of spots where others have "parked" their canoes during their time on top. Enjoy the view and don't forget your camera.

Bogwalker mentions the dead tree on south end of Nina Moose Lake. In the late 50s and early 60s we always referred to it as "The Eagle Tree," as it held an eagle's nest and, in those days of DDT - it was the only place we would see an eagle. Thankfully that has changed.

That dead tree had an eagle pearched on the top both on the way in & the way out. Must be a comanding view from up there.
PG, have you ever went ricing on the Moose River, I have never seen so much wild rice in an area up there.
