Somewhere in Quetico is this Island Campsite. I know for a fact many different people have camped on this grand site. However I'm not one of the fortunate ones to have had this opportunity. Any guesses? One hint you are looking at the east side of the island. qp

Wow two days have pasted and not a single guess. Ok I'll give you a hint: The Island Campsite has a history dating back 50 plus years. Several have visited and camped on this site. It isn't a very easy place to get to, which added to the disappointment for me when this site was taken back when I took this photo. Hey Buckeye you care to take a stab at guessing it? qp

Yes thats right. We were paddlig by there and hoping to read them in 2002. As we came around towards the site a guy was fishing near the camp. We waved in hopes he would suggest we stop to read. However he only looked up, so we paddled on. I guess he felt as we did. Thinking he was in a remote area and no one else around. That portage called the Death March surely must deter most of a visit to this remote lake. I must admit though the campsite we had on Camel more than made up for it qp

Here's the message jar in 2002. Our notes from 1986 were still in there. The 1968 notes were not.

Where on Camel were you? I was on Camel in Aug 2004. We stayed at the south site up by where Cutty Creek comes in. There was also a site directly north of our's. We were off exploring the lake and hadn't seen anyone for a couple days when out of no where 2 gals and 1 guy (lucky guy appeared in a 3-man canoe. This group all had to be over 70. They were headed south for a camp in the southern section of Camel. I would like to go back to Camel - not sure when though. To date it is probably my favorite lake. I am interested in info on this Southern camp. If yo think of Camel in three main sections, we stayed in the north, we explored/fished the north and middle, but didn't make it down to the south. We were on our way when we talked to the 3 people in the canoe. We decided since that is where they were headed we would just fish our way back to our camp and leave them the south part. No use crowding up the lake in a remote area. We were right at the narrows heading into the south part, but I didn't see how you could paddle through. Do you have to portage around in lower water conditions? Keep in mind I didn't inspect it too much as we just headed on and we didn't stick around to see what the other group did?
