I don’t think about it. It just happens. Never on a lake; only on a river; often in rapids. Just after we pass the tough part but before we are done with the whitewater out it comes: WHOOP! I don’t think I could ever whoop on purpose but I don’t think I could stop it from happening either. There is something about coming though a piece of whitewater with the canoe round side down and feeling the power of the river that is a joy all of its own.
Am I alone in vocalizing my joy? Anyone else whoop?

Last year on Darky, I think I whooped or maybe it was who-eey---I don't know--it wasn't thought out and it just happened.
Windyest day yet I have experienced, wind coming from the southwest we were in the north east part of the lake. 3-4 foot rollers (or bigger) hitting the far northeast point. We stopped for a break to see if the wind would die down---it got worse! Asked my wife what she wanted to do--her reply "I know we won't tip, but I'm more concerned we will be pushed into the rocks---let's go for it when we are rested."
We came around the point and hit the worst of it I swear the canoe came to a complete stop for a minute as we paddled with all of our might (more likely a few seconds). Then just for a second it let up a little and it was like our canoe was shot out of a gun. I have never paddled in such rythym and might in my life--everything we did was perfect. The waves were so high half of the time Sara's paddle could not reach the water because the bow was so high. Finally we reached the southern half of the lake in relative calm water---exhausted---then we whooped simultaneously without any thought and felt right---just couldn't help it. I'm sure if anyone was watching they understood.
