As the ice is about to melt and we all here start our trips into the great wilderness I thought this post might be, not only a good reminder, but as well a good time to check the gear and make sure everything is in working condition. First off and most important in my book is the First Aid kit. Are your bandages still good? Have you put something in the kit for a tooth ache? Make sure you got your meds. By the way I usually ask my Doc for a few pain pills just in case someone gets hurt. PFD is it still in good condition? Is it rated for your size? Some of us like myself tend to put a few pounds on in those winter months I sure wouldn't want to sink to the bottom of the lake just cause I was a couple pound more than it was rated for. Stoves, Yes Stoves let me tell you a little something about those fuel stoves. One year I didn't check my stove before a trip. First night in camp I lite it and it blew up. How about your canoe. You got all the dents knocked back out in you gruman. Fewer strokes means not as sore muscles. Fire safety. Remember while your camping to always be careful. One little spark can ruin a wilderness for many of us. Be sure to know your limits. Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. Get in shape for your trip and enjoy it. Any others I missed? qp

I know it's not law for people older than 13, but please: WEAR YOUR LIFE JACKET. I want you to have fun but I also want you to come back ;D Also check for widow makers and dead heads over your camp site. Be safe, have fun, come back ready for more "Life Jackets Float, You Don't"

"Life Jackets Float, You Don't" Reddcin. Good point and thanks, QP, My first aid kit is getting along in years. An update of some sorts is in order. Thanks for the reminder. On that note, a vivid image from my trip last year to remind us all of why portages came to be a necessity.

That canoe must be in deep water, it`s got the bends, ha, ha. Kidding aside good points by all, the life jacket and first aid kid especially.
