Started way too late in life, 2 BWCAW, 3 Q starting in 2001. Late start here also, my 1st trip was in 2002. I now have 18 trips into the BW/Q. Of course I live a little closer than you do. ;D
I thought I had replied to this post a long time ago.... hmmm....I guess not.

Hi gang! WoodBender here. My first trip was last year the last week of July. We went with my dad's church group but we were too big and had to split into two groups; a group of six and ours of four. I created a webpage (my first) with the journal that I wrote on the trail that trip. home.wmis.net/~eastmant/That particular webpage also has a 38 special that my son and I have started. Actually the 38 special is for Chris and a NW Cruiser would be for my better half (Theresa) and myself. Theresa really REALLY wants to go in with us (Chris and I) on one of these trips but has a very bad knee. A lot of up and down movement makes it very painful. About all she could carry would be her knitting needles. The portage out of southern Cherokee last summer going towards No Temperance would have blown it out for sure. We live near Grand Rapids, Michigan so a BWCA or Q trip for us is a major excursion, a two day trip just to get to the area we put in at last year. A lot of you I have already met on one of the other boards. Woods Walker invited me to post progress on our 38 Special but nothing has been added to what you see on my webpage. Right now it's too cold in my garage to glue up cedar strips! If you visit the trip journal on my webpage send me a note. I have about 20 megs worth of photos from that trip in the journal pages and some are really nice. The links are interspersed in my journal account. Hope you all can enjoy our first trip with me - I sure did. BTW I am planning to take Theresa in - but it can't happen until 2007. This summer is already blown for a BWCA trip. But were looking at going in at Poplar staying overnight at an outfitter's and then heading down to base camp at Gaskin for a while and day tripping around. That trip we'd take our NW Cruiser and Chris's 38. That would probably be Chris' High School Senior Trip.

My first trip in was in 1978 with my father and Bob, plus three others. The last 15 years, it's been Ron, Bob, Pop, and myself.
I've been going in every spring since for 28 years. Throughout the '80's, I've made three of four trips a year; some paddling, some backpacking. Maybe 45 some trips in; not sure.
Slowing down now, Pop and Bob are pushing 70, no thoughts of hanging up their paddles, yet.
This June, we'll revisit Ensign Lake...via towboat to the portage from Moose.

First trip was in 1985 then at least yearly starting in 1990.
Can remember how many but with at least one trip per year from 1990 to current that would make at least 17 (includine the '85 trip).
Longest: 2 weeks, 3 days. Favorite Trip: Sawbill - Frost River - Polly - Sawbill (Two Brothers, One canoe)

hmm I havn't been going for long. Due to the long drive, and lack of days off work..... Hmmm my father, who is my main trip partner has been going since 1976, and has been on at least 17 trips. I have only been on 4 thou. If I had the time, I'd have gone on over 10+
BTW I have only day tripped to the Q all my trips have been bwca, one gunflint trail, 3 ely area.
