I have taken 10 vacation BWCA trips all about a week or longer. And have taken over fifty day trips and or BW like trips. I have taken all these BW trips on the east side of the Boundary Waters. *In the past I have said I have said taken twenty-seven BW trips. This was counting both day trips and vacation trips. I wanted to clarify this so there would be no confusion and so no one would think I was being dishonest.

Overnight canoe trips == 22 (1 Quetico, rest BW, mostly west side) Overnight backpacking trips == 8 (mostly Angleworm Lake and Pow Wow Trails) Overnight winter trips == 5 (mostly east side of BW) Day trips == Lots!
Total overnight trips == 35
First BW trip (overnight paddle) was taken August '92 (yep, only been doing this for 12 years now).

I have entirely lost count. The times could be over one hundred, counting both BW and Quetico trips. I really began to go often after I overcame my fear of going solo, and since that summer trip in 1997 I have gone at least 3-4 times during the summer months, each year. I seldom go for less than a week at a time and the longest solo trip I have taken was 12 days. About half of my trips are shared by one or more people. Last summer seven of us did the Basswood thru Crooked back via Nina Moose trip. I never seem to tire of it and always love the idea of heading out, not having to return in the evening the way I came.

I guess a rookie has to reply sooner or later... meaning me.
I've had 7 week long trips in the BWCA. One solo if you don't count my dog.
1 week long solo trip in the Quetico, were I bumped into Interpid, and invited her to the QJ and the QP. (Glad you joined us V).
1 day trip with WW and Grey Jay on Hegman.
1 day trip suggested by Voyager North's crew through Wood Lake up into Basswood and back where I bumped into Bull Frog from the QJ.
3 day trips from Kawishiwi Lodge just putz'n around the old familiar turf.
I guess that means 8 week long trips and 4 day trips. May I live long enough to catch up to those of you above.

Rookie huh? Well I've yet to trip in the BW, but looking at a possible trip next Sept. When it come to the Q I'll have to do some counting. I think this years trip was number 14 but I'll double check just in case it wasn't. qp

Well, I was looking at my Excel trip spreadsheet, yea I know, anyway looks like 26 overnight trips, about 600 miles of paddling and portages not including double portages and about 90 nights of sleeping under the BWCA skies.

I must confess, my camping trip numbers are probably closer to 50 trips of several days or more....not 100! After taking carefull count out of curiousity (Old Scout, and his spreadsheet got me thinking) I can say with confidence I have done 23 major trips since July 1997, up to September 2004. I spent 174 nights sleeping in the woods, 110 of them with companions and 64 of them solo. I love canoeing, camping, paddling against the wind, feeding the bugs, living in dampness, and eating dried foods!!! IC
