I just felt the need to bring this reply I made from a post on the CCBB this morning.
It was in refreance to being in the wilderness on such an event as 911. I I emailed the person who started the post hopinig he will come here and post it as well.
What if times as we knew it changed on one of our trips. An event so devastating as 911 was terrible, to change America from the days before as we knew them are now long gone. As we merge into a new era of protecting our freedom. I think in order to protect it, it does matter who our leader is, who would you want with you in the wilderness in the event of an attack as 911, a rookie or a guide? One thought to keep in mind, who can lead, who can stay focused, who can stand on firm ground and not change there mine a 100 times or more. I think we have all been there on our trips.
Rather filling the shoes of a Rookie or a guide. The sad issue is this.
God forbid, but, what if you paddled out only to find civilization nearly wiped out. The shock alone would be devastating. But even greater would be the feeling of wondering do I still have my freedom, will we still prevail as the leaders in this strong willed country?
Yes I believe we are strong enough to do so, but I still think we need to be reminded from time to time. Twice the USA was caught off guard as we feel we are invincible. Twice we have shown our strength as to who we are.
Wilderness Mama you need to post your 911 trip report again I think it truly tells the meaning of being in the woods on a day of such impact.
She says it all in this line of text.
People often ask us it we are afraid in the wilderness with its bears, wolves and moose; now we insist it is much safer than the big cities where the real threat of "wildlife" exists. Quote from WM's trip report.
God Bless the USA. Please lets remember those who fell on this day three years ago today.
