A few more results...
The group "Scudz" chose to take a little trip down Eels Creek. Their trip took them from High Falls to the parking lot. They took out a large garbage bag of broken glass (be careful!!), one bag of cans and trash, along with 2 1/2 pairs of shoes. How come there is always one shoe?
The 1st Milton Venturers (Scoutergriz) cleaned up Crab Lake. They took out all of 1 bag in 3 days. Whoo, hoo!!!
The Killer Bees decided to take a trip in Algonquin Park, cleaning up Little Doe and Tom Thompson Lakes, along with the portage from Canoe Lake to Joe Lake. During their travels, they collected 4 bags of trash, "lots of socks", an oven mitt, and lots of wrappers and packaging.
Also in APP, The Pick Up Artists ventured to Sunday Creek. Of all 9 members in their group, all they could find was an old Nalgene bottle and a few scruds!
In Killarney Provincial Park, Ghoslo worked on cleaning up all 3 sites on Grace Lake and the 3 on Nellie Lake. They found not enough to even really mention. Yahoo!! They did, however, discover an old ruins on Nellie Lake where they found "two buildings, several old wood stoves (patented 1883), barrel hoops, saw blades and sleigh runners." When they reported their findings to the park, they were told that it was an old maple syrup operation. Cool! Of course, as these things are artifacts, they left the items intact.
It's so great to hear of all the garbage that's being taken out of our beloved wilderness, but it's equally rewarding to hear that there was not much - or anything at all - to find.
Congratulations everyone!
I believe these are the final results in from Canada. In the meantime, we are still awaiting results from the UK. If there are any more of you who would like to report, please post here or let me know at wildernesscleanup@rogers.com. Within the next few days or so, I will be announcing the winners and prizes.
Can't wait!
Come on, you guys, where's your spirit?

Just in...more results from the USA! Anselmo and family are originally from Brazil and are currently living in Illinois for 2 years. Anselmo discovered The Great Wilderness Cleanup on a Brazilian Scouts web site where our Brazil Leader, Tony Osse, posted the news. How's that for spreading the word! Anselmo and company cleaned up a part of the Rock Island Trail, taking out 27 bottles, 19 plastic bottles and 15 cans, along with the metal frame from a spring mattress, a large piece of metal roofing, a sheet of wood, real estate ads, cigarette butts, 2 sandals, 1 running shoe (I knew there had to be an odd one!!) and lots of plastic bags. Here are some pics: Courtesy of Anselmo FerreiraI think it's really refreshing to see all the junk taken out of the wilderness and new life brought into it. Gotta like it. Thanks for your terrific efforts! Together we ARE making a REAL difference. P.S. Did you notice in the background there is a garbage can provided, yet look at all that was just dumped anyway and later taken out by Anselmo and company? I just don't understand.

Special Mention - Tony & company were greeted in the town of Campina do Monte Alegre on Friday by 50 ladies of the Third Age Walking group, holding signs of The Great Wilderness Cleanup in Portuguese. There were dancers dressed in costume, too (not sure if this was before or after the cleanup). They walked with Tony to the first school, where about 100 students were waiting outside front of the school. They were then given a tour of the school, class by class. Tony spoke to 2 different groups of students at 2 schools on Friday, May 9th, 2008 - more than a total of 500 students! The students were very involved in the learning experience as the teachers were talking to them about it for a week before the event. A small garbage truck was needed to haul it away. Part of it was moved to the city central square. The garbage was sold to a recycling business in the city for “a symbolical price”.
Tony also talked with the Mayor.
He was also greeted by people from a nearby city on a bridge as the group put in the river.
