This year like many other years we saw a few people while paddling Quetico. I found myself asking them where they were from and to my suprise I also found out it's a small world.
The first group we encountered was pn Burke Lake just after the Rangers Portage. My partner and I had just met a group coming from the north. After they passed I notice one of the guys and I knew him. We never got his attentrion but I call the guy after I got home and sure enough it was my friend Dave. By the way my friend Dave lives in KY about 2 miles from my house. Then as we were portaging "Same Day" to North Bay a group of four guys are also traveling towards us from the north. We stop to chat exchange trip info things like that. I ask hey where are you from? He grins saying KY. I said oh yeah where at in KY. He says a little town you likely never heard of called Shelbyville. H'mmmm I ask you ever hear of La Grange? Yet another small world as we only live 15 miles from each other. This is the first time this has happened to me twice on a trip. Actually my very first trip we met up with a guy I had rented canoes from in southern IN before. Is this just me that this happens to our do some of the rest of you meet others on a trip from your home town, not knowing they are up there until the meeting? qp
