I finally got around to christening the ultralight spinning rod that Satchmoa made for the winner of last year's photo contest.
He did a very nice job on the rod and I posted some photos when I received it in the mail.
It took me awhile to get a reel put on it. But, it now has one and just begged me to go fishing. Since our packing is done for our upcoming BWCA trip, I thought I should fit in an outing. So, 3 friends and I went down the Umpqua to float and fish for smallmouth bass.
Here's a few photos from that trip.
This is the first catch for the little ultralight. I apologize, Satchmoa, for it being such a small fish. However, the Umpqua is populated with tremendous numbers of small fish. They seem to beat the larger ones to the hook.
Here's another photo of the rod with another bass. I think by the end of the day, the autograph and "good fishing" wishes were partly worn off. Sorry Satch.
All of us resting in shade at our lunch stop. It was well into the 90's yesterday. I took a very pleasant swim after lunch.
This is down at the takeout at the Elkton RV park. There's a nice couple from Lousiana who were tending the park this year. Costs $5 to get your boat cabled up the hill from river level to the park level. We probably could have carried our pontoon, but we're getting old and physically challenged, so we paid up.
My long-time good friend and faithful fishing partner, Rick, pulls his pontoon out of the way of the next boat.
I got too much sun on my legs, but it was sure a nice day. I caught in the neighborhood of a hundred smallmouth, but none over 13" Thanks again to QPassage and Satchmoa for the nice little "icthyosampler". I plan to do lots of "research" with it. ;D
