My buddy and I are entering Quetico For 7 days On May 18th-May 24th, via the Nym Lake entry point. We are very undecided on which route to take. We are going for the fishing first. We are die hards so that is top priority. Camping and new scenary second but still very important. We have three basic ideas on routes. So here I go I will give you the three that we have in mind and you guys if you will tell me your thoughts.
1. Enter at Nym Lake paddle to about mid Pickerel Narrows and set up camp for about 3 days. Pack up camp and then head to Jesse Lake through Maria Lake and camp the rest of the time on Jesse lake and fish there and surrounding lakes.( I have heard Jesse dosn't have smallmouths but full of small walleyes. I admit I love walleys but would like bigger sized ones and I like being able to catch all species of fish). Then from there head back out at Nym Lake.
2. Enter at Nym Lake paddle to about mid Pickerel Narrows and set up camp for about 3 days. Then from there pack up and head to Buckingham Lake for the rest of the time and exit via French Lake. This to me seems to be a good route.
3. Enter at Nym Lake paddle to about mid Pickerel Narrows and set up camp for about 3 days. Pack up and head down to North Sturgeon Lake. Via, Pine Portage Bay, Dore Lake, Twin Lakes then into North Sturgeon. Spend the rest of the time there then exit French Lake.
I like all three Ideas like I said fishing is the main part for me. I am at this point leaning twoards The Pickerel Narrows Buckingham Lake route idea. For Us as fisherman Buckingham Lake has three of the main four species and to get into some smallies would only be a short day trip away. However, I have never been to Buckingham. Could anyone possible fill me more in on this lake. Like scenary, fishing, quality campsites.
Sorry for it being so long. THANK YOU EVERYONE! It is very much appreaciated.
