Lookin good! I'm at about the same place you are with the stripping. I had to come inside and take a break my fingers were getting tired trying to crank the strips into palce and hold them long enough to get some staples in. How are you planning to strip the football? Keep the strips curving or start laying them along the center line and working out? If it keeps getting harder to bend the srips I might switch and start at the center line.

Beavers,
I can relate to the twisting strip issues....
I plan on keeping the football look, but am also considering the use of a sabot in the bow & stearn. I don't know how it would work out if I go to a sabot & then try to continue the football shape.
I will be busy the rest of this weekend, so I will not be out in the shop till Tuesday. I work four 10 hour days & get most Fridays off, so that is my canoe building day.
Yours is looking great also. Keep posting photo's

If I had to do it over again (the football), I'd do all of one side. make a clean cut on the centerline, then do the other side. I used bungie cords, clamps, extra hands (everything except the dog!) when it got twisty.

Arne,
Did you find that the strips were easier to twist as you layed the football, or do they keep on getting harder to bend?
Thanks, Beavers

Well, it went from difficult to twist to difficult to bend (in the axial, vs side to side sense). As I got closer to the centerline, it became more difficult to hold the bend, although most of the twist was gone by then. If I remember correctly, I had to use two brads per block as I got closer to the centerline.

Finally had some time to work on the canoe some more. I spent about 3 hours in the shop. I figure I have about 4 hours left to close up the hull bottom.
