I usually use a ground cover on the inside and outside of my tent. Here's what I use and why. I put a piece of tyvek paper cut just under the size of my tent on the outside. Thus allowing the tent to breath thru the floor as well as protect it from water. I take the tyvek and wash it in the washing machine before my trips this takes all the noise out of the paper as well as allows it to stuff down to nothing in size. Actually I can stuff mine in my pocket if I choose. I then put another (either tyvek or plastic) ground cover inside my tent. This allows me to easily clean my tent floor, added protection from flowing creeks near my tent from those unsuspecting down pours, and to add yet another vapor barrier between the ground and myself. Fortunately for me I have a readied source for my tyvek as I work in the construction field. However I have recently been told you can at Home Depot and Lowe’s buy the tyvek by the foot. So anyone else use tyvek as a ground cover? I should add that the second inside cover has come in handy at times as a tarp or wind shield. Simply folding a small rock over in the tyvek then tying a small rope to it in the corners. Again light weigh as I like it and packs tight for those travel days. qp

I usually use a 6 mil. plastic liner on the inside only. I cut it a little larger than the tent so it "flows" up the side about 6" on each side. The Tyvek sounds like it is a lot lighter and more compact (the plastic weighs at least a couple of pounds). So if Lowe's and Home Depot are selling it by the foot now. I think I might have to get some.

We use a cheap show curtain liner for our ground cloth. Works perfect!

I have always used a 5mil sheet under the tent that extends also under the vestibule (clean place to take off shoes), I also use a 3mil inside the tent floor.
I like your Tyvex idea for under the tent.....I might have to try that & it will shave some weight off my pack ;D
Of course when I get my Hennessy Hammock, I won't need either.
