"Letters from the Woods : Looking at Life through the Window of Wilderness", by Michael C. Hurley
I had the pleasure of tripping with Mike Hurley in 1999. Prior to that I was a subscriber to his magazine "Hurley's Journal". That journal focused on "traditional" canoe camping -- straight shaft paddles, canvas packs, cooking on the fire, etc. In fact, I thought he was a little nuts on our trip when he packed a canvas Baker's tent, cast iron cookwear, and a guitar.
However, Mike does take a traditional view of the wilderness, as well, reminicent of Thoreau.
This book is a collection of inspirational essays set in the northwoods but focusing on life, family, and faith.
I liked it. I think you will, too.
