Wow! That's one big moose. I have seen some big ones in lodges and restaurants...and was impressed by the size. Can only imagine how that one would look.

Nice Moose! 15 years ago I would have loved to shoot a moose that size but alas I no longer hunt, now I prefer to see them on four legs and only shoot at them with a camera. No condemnation here, to each their own.

I would like to apoligize & have modified my comment as to removing the post. I assure you that the statement was not directed at or toward anyone.... just wanted to stress that I didn't want to see a flame war started...... "for" or "against" hunting.
I just wanted everyone to know where my ethics were as it pertains to "true hunters" & the "trophy hunters".
Please don't leave the board because of this misunderstanding.
I am sorry for the slow response my modem crashed yesterday morning & I just got back online. You are the 1st priority for me to reply to, I want no hard feelings & it upsets me more than you know to think that you would consider leaving over this.
I will remove the entire thread if that is what you would like, it is off topic anyway & maybe I shouldn't have posted it. I was just awestruck that an animal could reach that size.
Please stay you are a great addition to our BB.[/color] [shadow=gray,left,500] Woods Walker[/shadow]

I don't peek or lurk but my friends who read this thread said I should give this some thought and so I did. I thank you for your kind replies and emails. Some might say I must have been feeling "thin skinned" that day and they would be right. Too many big challenges lately.
Thanks for helping me come to my senses and please forgive me for my over reactive response. I'm taking the weekend to go up north - if good weather, will be hiking or snowshoeing in the Boundary Waters. Can hardly wait! I'll let you know how it goes.

Nice Moose WW. Uffda! I read a poem called "Nothing is Wasted". I find comfort in the philosophy. We have a phone number in South Dakota. It is for calling the authories and harvesting road kill deer over winter months. Many have provided for their families this way in our part of the country. I'm curious if other states share our practice. Odd perhaps, but nothing wasted. Have fun up North Bearfeet k

I was chatting with someone at Trail Center, on the Gunflint Trail in MN and they said they have been allowed to get road kill deer and moose to use for food. I cannot vouch for the source or the information.

WB BF', I can not speak for Florida but there was an on going joke concerning our fromer Governor Childs collecting road kill racoons for his own consumption. When I lived in the Hudson Valley area of NY. I worked with a fellow by the name of Bob Chapman, Bob had a butcher shop at his home where he processed deer. Many of the conservation officers would collect road kill for him which he would then butcher and distributed to needy families through the local churches.
