I found this on the Boone & Crocket web site, shot in Alaska, might be the new world record. I just bet that it was heck of alot of work getting that baby out of the wilderness.
WOW!!! Following from Boone & Crocket web site: Big Moose on Campus November 5, 2004 Yes, this gigantic bull moose IS as big as he looks. Eric Arnette was fortunate enough to bag this bull on Sept. 5th in the Kilbuck Mountains (400 miles west of Anchorage). First reports on this monster are that he is 75 inches wide, has 36 scoreable points, and could challenge the World's Record at more than 260 B&C! We'll make sure and keep you posted. Stay tuned! I have no objection to hunting but it seems to me if they catch and release certain fish perhaps they should "release" certain animals from their crosshairs.
If I saw him I would be in awe of the profound beauty of this magnificent animal. I think even now of how its life enriched the earth. I think of these things even when I don't see photos like this.
I wasn't there. I believe it is possible that the "Old One" agreed to this. If it fed this man's family or many people who really needed the food then the story is somewhat different to me. But if done to prove who's got the biggest one, then we have a long long long way to go.
I read a poem called "Nothing is Wasted". I find comfort in the philosophy.
Thank you for posting the picture. I appreciate the reflection it invoked in me. Nothing is wasted.

I can only speak from my point of view, so here it goes:
In my book true hunters will only harvest what they intend to eat, I do not like sport hunting or trophy hunting, I hunt only because I enjoy the outdoors & matching wits with the wild world & most of all I like to eat the game I harvest.
Now don't get me wrong if I was moose hunting & seen that animal I wouldn't hesitate to take him.... why not?..... What makes that moose any better than another?...... Should I choose to harvest a smaller, younger bull?..... Or a cow?..... Is their life worth less?.... They are all equal to me..... A moose is a moose, a deer is a deer, a turkey is a turkey.... ECT.... they are all beautiful animals that I love & respect, but also enjoy pursuing & eating.
I hunt more with my camera, binoculars, or eyes than I do with a bow, rifle or shotgun. But when it comes time to put one on the table..... That’s what I will do.
If a person likes hunting purely for the enjoyment of killing..... Then to me, that is what that person is a "Killer".
I posted that picture because that IS an exceptionally HUGE bull, that did grace this earth & now will live on for many more years in photos & most likely a mount displayed so others can be awestruck by its massive beauty.... not to promote sport or trophy hunting.
I do not want to start a hunting debate.... [shadow=gray,left,500] Woods Walker[/shadow]

WW, you said "I do not want to start a hunting debate, so if this thread takes a turn in that direction.... I will remove it."
I have only posted here a few times and your reaction seems rather harsh to me. It certainly did not feel good to read it. I respect your right to remove the thread. I trust you will respect my decision to remove myself from the board. Thank you. Bearfeet.

Bearfeet,
I don't think WW was trying to imply that you were trying to start a hunting debate. He was just pointing out that he didn't want this thread to take that direction (I think).
I sure didn't see anything wrong with your post.
I, for one, sure hope we don't lose you!!!

I for one have enjoyed all the posts in this thread and thank Woods Walker for the first one and Bearfeet and Woods Walker for their reflections on hunting. I don't think WW was saying he didn't like your post, Bearfeat. If anything, I read him as reacting to his own musings about hunting . . . . Anyway, don't anyone go anywhere or pull any posts!

Hear! Hear! HoHo. Well said. I too was impressed by the moose photo and also appreciated both pro and con hunting opinions. I also hope we do not lose members over differences in opinions on some subjects; all opinions add to the mix and enjoyment of this site. IC
