With the things that have been going on concerning trespassers, I was wondering if your guide lines have changed with dealing with them and what you can suggest to make things safer.
We deal with trespassers on a yearly basses. In fact the first year I deer hunted I had 3 male trespassers enter my property hunting with rifle for deer (we are not in a rifle zone.) When I asked them to leave they told me they were not leaving. Now remember, I'm a five foot tall 118 pound female. I decided to take the high road and get down off my stand and leave. I have sense posted our property very well but I still wonder, what would I do now?
I think some things we have changed now is when confronting these people to make sure another person can see me from our house. I also think I will carry my bear mace now. And I will for sure bring the dog.
Anything else we can do to be or at least feel safe?

The 1st thing I would do is find their transportation if I could (car, truck, ATV...ect.) write down their plate # & call it in (answering machine, police...ect.). I would then start to approch them with a cell phone in hand, inform them they are trespassing & ask them to leave...... if they refuse call the police & have them arrested.
As far as the bear mace might.... work but remember most of the time they have guns.....the dog would be good as long as it had some blaze orange on too & stayed right beside you..... if it runs toward them or too far ahead of you I am afraid it would be shot.
Just remember ask them to leave, don't argue, just ask & walk away..... keeping a big tree between you & them would be a good idea if possible....if they are still there when you look back....call the law....you did your part by informing them & asking them to leave.
Another alternative would be to post the property with signs that say "WARNING Trespassers will be Shot, Survivors will be Shot Again".....LOL......Kidding

Reddcin,
I was once put in a situation where I politely asked a trespassing hunter to leave posted property to this he refused. It got heated and I thought I was going to be involved in a shooting, yes I was packing a 357 under my coat. He finally left when I sat down on a log facing him and told him it was going to be a very long day. I was not going to turn my back on someone with a loaded weapon, hunting accidents do happen. Upon reflection the best recourse would have been to copy down license plates and call the authorities, that's what they are paid for. There are way to many wackos in this world, so why put yourself in harms way.
