Hey all,
Does anyone happen to know of a web page that lets you store photos that you can directly link to. The only way anyone can post a photo in the forum now is if the photo exists on the web somewhere & they can link to it.
Above in the Boundary Waters forum I posted some pictures from a website, but only one seems to remain there unless I go open that website then they all appear again I can't figure that out....it also seems to effect my pesonal photo to the left.
We are looking for a webpage that we could link to that would allow the members here to post photos in the forums. Any help you could provide would be great.

Hey WoodsWalker - I think this is the answer to why your images don't show up sometimes. It's from the Freewebs FAQ page. Bottom line is that you can't do that with Freewebs' free accounts:
"Can I hotlink images? Can I put Images or files on my FreeWebs account and have them available from other sites? Hotlinking means storing an image on one web account and linking directly to it from another website. This is also referred to as Image hosting. Some users wish to have their images available to link to from other webpages such as eBay or from their discussion boards. FreeWebs prevents this type of use as our primary purpose is to provide web hosting. However, for those users who do wish to use FreeWebs as an image host as well, we have made available Webzoom which will permit your files to be hotlinked and will also increase their bandwidth speed. You can sign up for Webzoom from your Premium Services area after logging into your FreeWebs account."

BTW, a guess as to why the pictures "disappear" and then reappear after you visit the website: Since they don't allow "image hosting", as they call it, they probably have some code that's detecting requests for jpg and gif files without a corresponding request for an html file. After a couple of those, they probably block access to the image file, but unlock that access when a request for an html page comes followed by and in close proximity timewise to requests for the image files.
That way they can enforce their ban on image hosting but continue to allow the websites they host to function properly.

Too cool! Thanks!
I always felt guilty about posting pictures at bwca.com and pasting a link. But it was the only place I could keep them and where I knew where they were. :-)
Adam, that doesn't mean I won't add to my photos at your site, just means I won't abuse the privilege.
