Some other women and I are going winter camping in 12 days to the BWCA!! We are so excited. When I tell people where I am going they think I'm crazy (of course not anyone from canoe or camping boards lol). Can't wait to share pictures with you all! I'm going to be taking a bunch, so soon you shall see what it takes to winter camp

What area/entry point are you thinking of heading out of?
It's been plenty cold at night up here in Ely lately. 10-20 below zero at night. Nice snow cover here, but there's a lot more snow if you're heading east toward Isabella/Sawbill Trail area. Three feet+ of snow in the woods.
Good Luck and watch out for creeks, swamps, and narrows. No/Thin ice in some spots yet. You will probably hear/see wolves on the lakes as they chase the deer onto the lakes.

We are going in around Sawbill so 3 feet of snow is great news ;D We will be building snow shelters so the night temps won't bother us to much. I have done several BW winter camping trips in the past, but all the other ladies in my group are newbies

Well the weather forecast was for -20 at night so my group decided that to cancel the trip. We decided it was to cold for inexperienced people. On a positive turn, they want to do a Spring trip now. Either late April or Early May. I have never been to the BW in the spring so this is kind of exciting for me. I have done 7 BW winter trips but 0 spring ones. Can't wait!

I'm not trying to give you any grief, but I had my money bet that the trip was going to get cancelled with the recent weather. It's going to get colder than -20 below, too. I know what it's like and you better know what the heck is going on, or else people are going to come back with missing fingers and toes. You definitely made the right decision to cancel, especially if there are people who never winter camped before. I'm sleeping in my own bed this weekend, too. Well, on the ice in a fishhouse. Now that's what I call winter camping! ;D There's nothing like sleeping on the middle of a frozen lake with the woodstove going and catching fish. It can be -40 six inches away and be 80 in the fishhouse.
