This will be my second year without winter camping (not counting camping down by my river). My husband doesn't understand why I love it so. I try to tell him its the crisp quiet morning air, and the sound of fresh falling snow. The clarity of the stars at night and the way snow feels to sleep on. It's the adventure, the survival and the ability to have fun. It's all that and more; and most people will never understand. (my husband goes winter camping with me to "keep me safe" because if he didn't come I would go anyway )

Hi Cindy
I'm making assumptions here and figuring that when you go winter camping you go cold weather camping?
One way you might get him more into it is if you tried traditional winter camping with a canvas tent and wood stove. There's nothing quite like being in shirtsleeves in a tent in the woods while it's below zero outside...
Food for thought... ;-)

Yup we cold camped However with those nice sleeping bags I would hardly call it cold lol. But with Anna being so young we won't be doing that for a while. Dave suggested renting a cabin and making day trips. I'm up for that; as long as I get a camp fire

I'll add a second to BF's thoughts on winter camping using a canvas tent with a wood stove. My experience with this has really only been with elk hunting and fishing in the winter (or at least cold weather) out west. The tent/stove arrangement is just so comfortable and cozy especially if outside is a snowy landscape. It takes some time to set up and break down camp they way I've experienced it, so it may not work as well for a casual weekend escape, but I'll bet even there, with the right equipment, it would work OK. Hope you get out this winter Redd...
