I'm looking at doing winter trip over New Years and need some fools, er, I mean, partners. I can take December 30 through January 3 off. I'm somewhat flexible but, would like to drive up the afternoon/evening of the 29th, enter the morning of the 30th and exit and return home on January 3rd.
No set plan on location yet but, I have had a desire for some time to see Johnson Falls in the winter. I'm open to other suggestions as well.
Type of tenting (cold vs warm) will depend on type of trip (tour vs basecamp) which will also depend partly on partner(s) (I currently don't have a warm tent setup -- but, that could change).
Any takers?

You know I'd love to do this, but just can't with the way my work schedule is set up. I have three days off every third weekend until January 21. I'd imagine by that time a regular work schedule is going to seem like vacation.

Finally found the "new" tobaggon. It was stuffed in one of the storage sheds. I looked in every other building on the place before it was found. Actually, my daughter Sara found it. Like her mother she is a "finder." She has the ability to find things when I can't. My son Tim is as bad as I am at finding things.
The tobbagon had "sprung." The rolled over front of the tobaggon was standing straight up toward the sky. Tim and I wrapped it in bath towels and tied them on tight.
We boiled water in the large (2 gallon ) tea kettle. We brought the tobbagon out on the front porch and soaked the towels with boiling water. Using welding gloves we pushed down slowly on the front of the tobbagon until it had the right bend and tied it off tight.
Today I'll re-rope the tobbagon and move one slat over - where two are binding. Then it will be ready to go.
Spoke with Dave Lottig, the Empire Canvas guy, yesterday. Snowtrekker tent will be hand delivered next Saturday or Sunday.
Still need to make a tobbagon pack. This will consist of a rectangular natural canvas envelope the length of the tobaggon and the height of the bend on the front of the tobaggon. The pack will hold the tent and wood stove.
I still haven't figured out just how to do the ties and strap arrangements for keeping the pack in place, but I'll figure it out. In the past, I've just used rope, but I was thinking of something a little more specialized for this tobbagon.

PG! I can't believe at your advanced age you have not already realized "finding" is a female skill, which men seem never to be able to master. Your projects are always interesting to hear about, too few people have the varied interests necessary to stay entertained with life. My happiest memories are of spending time with my dad in his workshop and I learned to do lots of little things I wouldn't have been exposed to if he wasn't so interested in his hobbies. I've even skinned mink and taxidermied little birds with him. My brother didn't want anything to do with that kind of thing ... so I was the one keeping dad company. Long live the eccentrics in life. Not true, IC. My eldest son, Jean, is the best finder of all!
Though I will have to admit he is outnumbered by the distaff members of the family, and Peter is the worst of us all.
I do enjoy making things. One of the best gifts my father bestowed on me is the idea that I can build, or repair, anything (within reason) I put my mind to.
As to being "advanced," I fear I should take umbrage at that statement - though doubtless you meant it as "advanced " in skill, strength, knowledge, wisdom and good looks (LOL!).

... Beaglefur and I are still looking for one more person to winter camp with us over the New Year's weekend.
Beags and a friend of his are planning to drive up very early the morning of the 29th. Putting in on E. Bearskin, skiing to Crystal Lake (preferably) or Alder Lake to set up a base camp. I'll be driving up the evening of the 29th and, either skiing in that night or staying in GM and skiing in the morning of the 30th (preferred). Plans are to exit on January 2. Beags and friend will drive home that day while I'm planning to stay a night in GM and take a leisurely drive down the North Shore on the 3rd (taking photos of course) arriving home that evening.
On the agenda for this trip is a day trip to Johnson Falls, and exploration of the old mine site on Spaulding. We'll be "warm tent" camping on this trip so evenings and mornings will be relatively comfortable. Beags will be in charge of the food so we will be eating well
Preferably looking for someone to travel up with me on the evening of the 29th and into the BW on the morning of the 30th.
