Have been up browsing in Dad's library, he has lots of books, most on the outdoors, environment and adventure stories. Came across Kenneth Roberts and two books about the French/Inidans/British/Colonists around mid 1700's to 1800's. One is ARUNDEL, the other NORTHWEST PASSAGE. They look like they will be very interesting and Dad said Kenneth Roberts was one of his favorite writers. Are you famililar with these books? IC

Pierre, on the reenactment theme, when we were on Lac la Croix this summer we saw what I called a "voyageur canoe" -- a big wood (?) sucker for about 10 men (or women). My impression was that the voyageurs used mulit-men canoes like this. I'm wondering if you can tell me if that is right and if this is a reconstruction of a voyageur canoe. (This is my first picture post attempt here, so bear with me.)

HoHo:
That is correct. Though many different size canoes were used in the fur trade, the two main sizes were 36 foot "Matrie" canoes for the great lakes between Montreal and Grand Portage (and later Fort William) and the 24 foot "Nord" canoes with were used west of Lake Superior.
