I know a really heated debate on the Internet among family campers is at what age can or do you bring a child camping. I feel this depends on 3 things. 1. What type of camping you will be doing. 2. How experienced are you with this type of camping. 3. How comfortable are BOTH parents with bringing the children.
My husband and I have over 600+ miles into canoe camping alone (not counting hiking and car camping). I feel very confident in a canoe. That being said we have brought our oldest daughter camping when she was 6 weeks old into the BWCA. But we based camp at the put in lake so we were able to get to the car in seconds if we needed to. I know for some this is to extreme and for others this was to easy. But for our family it was perfect. Next summer we will be bringing our then 2 year old and our then 10 month old to the BW. It will be a lot of work and mostly day trips but in my opinion for our family it is well worth it.
So my question is: When do/did you bring in your youngest and what was the adventure? Was it worth it for your family? Would you do it again?

Cindy,
I think that your taking your children on canoe trips at an early age is great....but my wife seen your pictures & said NO WAY.... I explained that you guy's were very experienced canoe-rs & I didn't think you were taking that big of a risk.
It is something that I would not do with her & my kids at that age....but that is only because her 1st trip in a canoe was a couple of years ago, she loves it but still is not the most comfortable person in a canoe, but if she had the canoing experience that I have, I wouldn't give it much thought.
I believe that your kids are truly blessed to get the exposure to the outdoors that they are getting....some of the best family times ever can be spent in a tent ;D Native American's traveled all the time with infants & they didn't use PFD's.
Lets see.....my kids 1st BW trip was when my daughter was 8 & son was 6. We have done a trip every year since.
