I've always gone to the Quetico in the past, but due to other family events, won't have time for a weeklong trip this year. So, I'm going to visit the BW for the 1st time. Looking for suggestions for a 3-4 day trip, moderate amount of travel. Probably late Aug. or early Sep, so must also consider where permits might be available for a Thurs. or Fri. entry. Thanks!

I did a nice three day trip last Sept. Isabella Lake EP #35 to Little Gabbro Lake. Could stay the first night on Quadga Lake and night two on Bald Eagle or Gabbro. If the Isabella Lake EP is booked you could enter at Little Isabella River EP #75

You could also go in EP#16 Moose/Portage River north.....It would take you one day to reach Agnes or LLC. Then base camp there & make day trips....alot of options....Pictographs, Warrior Hill, Rebecca Falls, Curtain Falls.
If you want to travel everyday, I havn't went this way but always thought a mini loop out of LLC to the west through Gebeonequet, Green, Rocky, Oyster & back to Agnes looks interesting & it also could be done on a day trip.
There really are alot of options out there another one would be Lake One to Insula. Again alot of day trip options & great fishing.
What are you after fishing? sights? solitude? then maybe we could help you narrow it down a bit.

Thanks. I'm not picky, and have to start somewhere, so really I'm just looking for trips that have worked for people in the past. Will do some fishing for walleye and smallies and would prefer a loop to base camping.

Bears fan,
There are a lot of great three-day routes our there – I just have not done any of them. You might want to think about the Granite River between Gunflint and Sag. This is a trip I have thought about for a long time. You might also think about going in off of Liz and circling through vista etc. I know that others on the board have paddled this part of the BW and enjoyed it. I know that there are others but these are two that I can think of. Maybe others can add to this.

Jack and I did the Granite River between Gunflint and Sag, probably about 1996. It was a beautiful trip and I wished we could have stayed over night. We ended up staying on the West end of Gunflint Lake and then paddled through to the Sag corridor the next day, so didn't stay over. IC

You could start at Lake One, go down the Kawishiwi River and end at Gabbro.
Good fishing in the river for walleyes, pike and some smallies.
Gabbro is real good for walleyes and crudpie.
Not a long trip, but plenty of time to explore and fish the little lakes nearby.
One way, so you would need to shuttle cars.
