I will check out the 19' Itasca this spring and i do appreciate your input. I had not considered that canoe despite reading its specs in the past - but not recently. Thanks and happy trails.

I too will say good things about the Souris River 18.5... A very stable canoe... and it holds a load... I am a big guy, 6' 6 285, and the 18.5 hold me, two #4 duluth packs full, and the food pack and assorted smaller gear packs, a 200 pound plus paddler in the bow and still have plenty of freeboard. Last June faced big waves on several lakes... some paddling against... no problem, some running with... no problem. Bought my 2003 and have loved it ever since... Got caught in a storm here at a lake here near home in Arkansas. Boat was empty except for myself and fiance... we saw the storm coming and tried to out run it... lacked 50 yards reaching safety, hit broadside by 20+ mph winds... immediately moved it 6 feet sideways until we could get turned and run with the wind and get to shore 1/4 mile down the bank... never came close to turning over...
