Transporting food. After years of trial and error, we've adopted the tried and true Banana box method. Your grocer has banana boxes, ask for one. Place all your dried food into the box, and using a liner, place the box in a #3.5 Duluth style pack - it'll fit perfectly. The food is protected from crushing, it stays organized and you never spend time digging thru the pile to find something. I place a closed cell pad folded between the box and the side facing my back - it's not uncomfortable even when it's heavy at the start of a trip.

Great idea. But the trouble is you completely eliminated isometric shaped loaves of bread.

I haven't done it myself, however my grandmother has made many pcks out of denem. I've never used them in the bwca/q however they are great for other day trip type uses. I have also made my own snowshoes, and I think I will make another better pair this wintner.
