I've not been to this before but would like to go. I do have a couple of questions. We have 3 kids (3, 4 and 6). I have a suspicion from reading some of the other posts that this may a tough trip to bring them on. Thoughts? Also, what about the general atmosphere at the campground, kids welcome?
Thanks.

Upper Iowa River Bring your children! This is a family event; we want everyone to have a good time. Bearsfan, In an attempt to help out Wildernessmama, who like all of us, gets busy from time to time I thought I'd say a few words. I have never ran the UIR, but like you, Bearsfan, am interested. From what I have read so far in this report, it looks to me that this trip would be similar to the Niobrara route in Nebraska, that I have ran, and if it is..a perfect opportunity to introduce children to canoe camping. I would guess, at this time of year, the beer parties along with the tubing down river would not have begun. I hope this has been somewhat helpful untill Wildernessmama has a chance to catch up. Widernessmama, is there a deadline for being added to the UIR group for the 2005 Spring Paddle? k

Thanks, K! Sorry--We've been out of town this week. By all means, bring your children! This is a family event although the safety of paddling the river will depend upon the water level. Parents are responsible for their own children and have to make that decision, but we've had kids along before. I have never seen a beer party on the river and there's very little tubing in this area. There may be a college party at the Chimney Rock Campground (half way along the route) but I've never seen any disruptive behavior.

Oh, and there's no registration or sign-up limit to attend. We just wanted to get an idea of how many to expect. You might want to e-mail Nibi for nametags if you don't already have them, just to make it easier for those who may not know you.
Looking forward to seeing you there!

Thanks. Mark us down. We'll make it unless the weather is really awful.

Ok, So, I'll be there..but as Woods Walker knows... I'll probably run late. Keep them fires burning!
I'll be bringing some firewood, as stated before.. to throw on the fire once I do arrive, and several pounds of jerky in different flavors that I've made over the last few days to share with who ever would like to try some.
Save me a camp spot. I won't need much room as I'm only going to bring the two man, and I've decided on bringing the yak for the float. Her name is "Vickie" by the way.
