What is the draw that makes you want to return each year?

To see if my poop is still buried.

Ok, Ok, I'll be dumb enough to ask.... Well, Sir Stumpy....is your Poop still burried.... where did you find it last?

For the absolute solitude

For a soul search, a vision quest, a rite of passage, a Quetico passage.
Something tells me I'll solo the Quetico again, reaching deeper and deeper every year God grants me the ability to do so.

Why do I return to Quetico?
The camping, the paddling, the portaging, the fishing, the comaradarie, the challenge, eating fresh-caught walleyes, the loons, the beavers and moose, and smelling the air - all of which add up to the rejuvenation my soul.

Occasionally when I am alone in the woods on a huge lake with just the Loons for company, floating on its surface and feeling every ripple as if the Lake is breathing. The boundaries which are my kayak and myself blurr and I become one with the water for a quick, totally relaxed moment. Being boundary-less is disconcerting and dizzy-ing and I shake it off quickly instead of relaxing and allowing myself to float weightlessly longer. At moments like this I feel so completely calm and satisfied with life that I think..."If I should die right now, it would be okay, I have done enough and I am at peace with everything."
